Too Many Activities, Too Little Jesus

Do you ever feel like your family calendar is running faster than your family itself?

Family story time in a cozy living room

Soccer practice, dance lessons, music rehearsals, school projects — and that’s just Tuesday.

It’s like pouring water into a sponge that’s already full. At some point, there’s no room left. And what often gets squeezed out first?

  • Quiet evenings together.

  • Bedtime prayers.

  • Time with Jesus.

Jesus Never Rushed.

He walked from place to place, unhurried, always attentive to His Father’s will. He invited His disciples to rest and even calmed storms while others panicked. Following Him means learning to slow down.

Busyness is not the same as fruitfulness. A packed schedule can leave families weary, distracted, and stressed. But when we create margin, we discover rest, joy, and space for God’s voice.

Over-scheduled families can miss the joy of simply being together. But saying no to some activities is really saying yes to more time with Jesus.

Family Fun Around the Game Board

Family Night

  • Choose one evening each week with no activities.

  • Mark it clearly on the family calendar as a “rest night.”

  • Use it for a slow dinner, reading a favorite story, prayer, or simply enjoying one another’s company.

  • Protecting space creates margin for peace and Christ-centered connection.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
