A Clear Focus

The Eye as a Lamp

Have you ever noticed how whatever you focus on eventually starts to shape your whole day? If you’re focused on a problem, everything feels heavy. If you’re focused on something good, everything seems to brighten up.

As Jesus sat with the people on that mountainside, He shared a simple but powerful truth about this. He said: “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” (Matthew 6:22)

It’s such a clear picture. Your eyes don't just "see" things; they act like a guide. What you choose to give your attention to—what you really dwell on—starts to color your entire life.

When your focus is clear and healthy, things feel steady. You move with more peace. But we all know how easy it is for our focus to get scattered. There is always something pulling at us:

A new worry to chew on.

A new comparison to make.

A new thing to chase.

Before you even realize it, your attention is divided, and your heart starts to feel that familiar sense of uncertainty and heaviness.

This is where grace meets us.

Jesus doesn’t just tell us to "try harder" to focus. Instead, He gently invites us to look in the right direction. Through Him, you don’t have to find clarity all by yourself.

When you make Him your focus—turning your heart toward His words and His presence—something inside you begins to settle. What felt scattered starts to come back together. What felt dim starts to catch the light. It doesn’t usually happen all at once, but it happens steadily as you keep looking His way.

The Sermon on the Mount reminds us that a life with God isn't about controlling every circumstance around us; it’s about where we choose to fix our eyes.

What if the clarity you’ve been searching for actually starts with where you’re looking today? What if, by turning your attention toward Him, everything else finally begins to come into the light?

Fix your focus on what is true, and let His light fill your life.
