The New Testament tells the greatest story ever recorded—the story of Jesus Christ. It reveals His birth, His life, His teachings, His death on the cross, His resurrection, His ascension into heaven, and His promised return. Through Him, we see the Father's love revealed, the way of salvation opened, and the hope of eternal life offered to all who believe.
While the Old Testament looks forward with anticipation, the New Testament announces that God's long-awaited promises have begun to be fulfilled. The Messiah has come. The Kingdom of God has been proclaimed. Sin and death have been defeated through Jesus' sacrifice, and the good news of God's salvation is carried from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth.
The New Testament contains twenty-seven books written by apostles and close companions of the apostles over approximately fifty years. These books include four Gospels that tell the life of Jesus from different perspectives, the book of Acts describing the birth and growth of the early Church, letters written to encourage believers and strengthen churches, and the book of Revelation, which gives us a glimpse of Christ's final victory and the glorious future God has prepared for His people.
Although these books were written by different men to different audiences, they proclaim one message: Jesus is the promised Savior, the Son of God, and the Lord of all. Every page invites us to know Him, trust Him, follow Him, and share His good news with others. Together they tell one unified story, inviting every generation to know Jesus Christ and faithfully follow Him.
As you read through the New Testament, you will discover not only what Jesus did, but also what He taught. You will watch Him heal the broken, welcome the outcast, forgive sinners, confront hypocrisy, and reveal the heart of His Father. You will see ordinary men and women transformed by His grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry His message throughout the world.
The New Testament is more than a record of past events. It is an invitation. Jesus still calls people to follow Him, just as He called fishermen beside the Sea of Galilee nearly two thousand years ago. His words continue to challenge, comfort, encourage, and transform those who listen with open hearts.
As you journey through these books, take your time. Read prayerfully. Notice how each writer reveals another facet of Christ's character and another part of God's unfolding plan. The more clearly you see Jesus, the more clearly you will understand the entire Bible.
The New Testament does not stand apart from the Old Testament—it completes it. The Scriptures that Jesus read, quoted, and loved are the very Scriptures we now call the Old Testament. Throughout His ministry, He continually pointed people back to Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, showing that they all testified about Him. Every promise God made, every sacrifice that foreshadowed redemption, every prophet who spoke of the coming Messiah, and every glimpse of God's Kingdom finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. As you begin the New Testament, remember that you are not leaving one story behind and starting another. You are stepping into the glorious fulfillment of the story God has been telling from the very beginning.
My prayer is that as you read these pages, you will not simply gain a greater understanding of the New Testament, but that you will come to know, love, and faithfully follow the One to whom every page points—Jesus Christ.
