First Things First

Seeking the Kingdom

Have you ever felt pulled in a dozen directions at once, trying to keep every ball in the air, but still wondering deep down if you're even focusing on the right things?

As Jesus sat with the crowd on that mountainside, He gave them a simple way to clear the noise. He said: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Life has a way of getting crowded fast. There are always responsibilities, needs, and those nagging worries about what’s coming next. Without even realizing it, those things start to take "first place." They begin to drive our thoughts, our decisions, and even our health.

But Jesus gently pulls us back—not by giving us a longer to-do list, but by simplifying everything down to two words: Seek first.

He isn’t telling us to ignore our lives or pretend our needs aren't real. He’s just showing us how to put them in the right order. To "seek the Kingdom" is simply to turn your heart toward Him before you turn toward your problems. It’s choosing to trust that when He is at the center, every other piece of the puzzle will eventually find its place.

This is where grace meets us.

When God isn't first, everything feels heavier because it feels like it all depends on us. But when He is at the center, something shifts:

Life begins to feel more settled.

Your heart feels steadier.

The weight you’ve been white-knuckling starts to lift.

Because of Jesus, you aren't "seeking" God to earn a spot in His life—you’ve already been invited in. Seeking Him isn't about doing more; it's about turning toward the love you've already been given. And as you get to know the Father, trust starts to grow naturally.

With that trust comes such freedom. You realize you aren't carrying the world on your shoulders anymore. What you need isn't forgotten; it’s held in the hands of the One who loves you most.

The Sermon on the Mount reminds us that life with God isn't about adding more to our plates—it’s about putting Him at the heart of everything. And when He is there, the rest of the world finally starts to make sense.

What if what you’re looking for today isn’t more time or more stuff, but just a clearer direction? What if peace begins with what you put first?

Put God at the center today, and trust Him to take care of the rest.

If these insights brought clarity to your heart today, we invite you to bookmark this space and share this post with someone who might need it, so we can continue walking the simple way of Christ with others through the After the Mountain series. Let's quiet the noise and fix our eyes on Him together. We’re so glad you’re here.
