First Things First

Seeking the Kingdom

Have you ever felt pulled in too many directions at once, trying to keep everything together, and still wondering what really matters most?

As Jesus sat with the people on the mountainside, He said,
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Life can feel crowded.

There are always things asking for your attention.
Responsibilities.
Needs.
Worries about what’s coming next.

And without even realizing it, those things can take first place. They begin to shape your thoughts, your decisions, your sense of peace.

But Jesus gently brings us back.

Not by adding more, but by simplifying everything.

Seek first.

Don't ignore everything else.
Don't pretend life isn’t real.
But place it all in the right order.

To seek the Kingdom of God is to turn your heart toward Him first. Toward His presence. His ways. His will. It’s choosing to trust that when He is first, everything else will find its place.

Because when He isn’t first, everything feels heavier. It all depends on you.

But when He is.

Something shifts.

Life begins to settle.
Your heart feels steadier.
The weight you were carrying starts to lift.

And this is where grace meets us.

Because through Jesus, you’re not trying to earn a place with God.

You’ve already been invited in.

Seeking Him first isn’t about doing more—it’s about turning toward what has already been given. And as you come to know the Father, trust begins to grow.

And with that trust comes freedom.

You’re no longer carrying everything on your own.
What you need is not forgotten.
It is held in His care.

This is why the Sermon on the Mount matters so much. It reminds us that life with God isn’t about adding more to our lives—it’s about placing Him at the center.

And when He is there, everything else begins to make sense.

There on the hillside, as the people sat quietly and thought about their own lives, His words would have settled gently into their hearts.

What if what you’re looking for isn’t more, but a clearer direction?
What if peace begins with what you put first?
What if, by placing God at the center, everything else begins to fall into place?

Put God first, and trust Him to take care of the rest.
